pcm have been employed to provide Project Management and Cost Consultancy services on the revitalisation of Walthamstow High Street, Town Square and Gardens, construction of the new Bus Station and London Underground link subway.
The Town Square and Gardens is an existing open space that adjoins the High Street and provides a refuge from the intense activity of the town’s historic market. The area forms a link between the railway station and retail core, and provides spaces for informal recreation and childrens playground. However, all of the facilities had become tired through pressure of use and were failing to respond to the changing needs of the community.
As part of a major urban regeneration initiative, the London Borough of Waltham Forest is engaged in a programme of improvements of Walthamstow town centre. The enhancement of the High Street and Town Square and Gardens lies at the heart of the Borough's regeneration strategy.
The brief sought to bring about the rejuvenation of this asset and with financial assistance from the European Regional Development fund, SRB and Transport for London, work associated with the new urban park and the first two phases of the High Street is now complete.
pcm have managed the intensive feasibility phasing and final proposals involving 80 adjacent owners, co-ordination of three different funding authorities, detailed access liaison to the NatWest bank and Library, identification of accessibility issues and incorporation within the works.
