Service provided: project management and cost consultancy

Weston Park Hospital Site Development Phase 1

Within the grounds of the existing hospital has been constructed a five storey building comprising lower ground, ground and 3 upper floors. The Lower Ground Floor is linked onto the existing building and facilitates the expansion of the Radiography Department and has allowed the installation of two Linear Accelerator Bunkers.

The Ground floor houses new medical record facilities with the remaining three upper floors dedicated to administration, meeting and consultant rooms.

The project was undertaken on a partnership basis with a charter established and signed by all parties. The form of procurement was a two stage design and build contract. Stage 1 entailed the design team being appointed by the Client and following a selection process the Contractor was paid a fee for his early involvement in the design and the undertaking of the required demolition to allow construction of the new building. Following the agreement of the Target Price (as required by the NEC-ECC Option C Target Price Contract) Stage 2 entailed the detailed design and production information and construction of the new building with the design team being novated to the Contractor, Clugston Construction.

Weston Park Hospital Site Development Phase 2

Following completion of Phase 1, the second phase of the project was undertaken by the same team. This looked at refurbishing the existing first floor of the Weston Park Hospital to provide space for a new library and administration offices. Upon completion of this and the decanting of these operations from the ground floor to the first floor, the ground floor was refurbished to provide new Outpatient and Chemotherapy facilities including new consulting rooms and quiet comfortable areas for patient treatment during Chemotherapy. The phasing plan for the works had to ensure that the hospital remained operational throughout the project.

Weston Park Day Care Centre

The Day Care Centre was a project undertaken by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in association with the Harold Miller Day Care Unit.

The project involved redevelopment of a large old 2-storey stone-built Victorian villa in a conservation area, into a residential day care facility for a Charity caring for Cancer patients. Existing building was in a bad state of disrepair and needed complete refurbishment, together with some demolition and rebuilding using reclaimed materials, where possible, to meet Planning conditions. As part of the refurbishment, a small extension was built to the rear of the property. Internally the environment was designed to not look like a hospital whilst still providing consultant rooms, outpatient facilities, day rooms, quiet rooms and administration areas. There is a lift provided internally and electrical and hot water systems are being powered by ONYX, which is a Sheffield City Council sustainable energy initiative.
